What is the NORVI X?+
The NORVI X is a DIN-rail mountable modular industrial IoT controller built on the ESP32-S3 processor. It combines Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Ethernet, and optional 4G LTE with a hot-swappable I/O expansion system supporting up to 200 I/O points. It is designed for machine builders, systems integrators, and OEMs who need cloud-connected industrial automation without traditional PLC costs or vendor lock-in.
What is the difference between X1, X2, and X3?+
All three share the same ESP32-S3 core, TFT touchscreen, RS-485, and Ethernet as standard. The X1 ($79) is the Wi-Fi/BT/Ethernet base model. The X2 ($95) adds a SIMCOM A7672 modem for 2G/4G IoT-grade cellular. The X3 ($101) upgrades to a Quectel EC25 modem for high-speed user-grade 4G LTE — ideal for higher-bandwidth data applications.
How many expansion modules can I connect?+
The NORVI X supports enough expansion modules to reach 200 I/O points per controller. Modules are hot-swappable and use I²C address configuration to prevent conflicts. You can freely mix digital, analog, relay, transistor, sensor, and comms modules in the same system without any rewiring.
What communication protocols are supported?+
The NORVI X supports RS-485 Modbus RTU, Ethernet Modbus TCP, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0 BLE, and optional 4G LTE. For cloud integration it natively handles MQTT and HTTP — connecting directly to AWS IoT, Azure IoT Hub, Google Cloud, and custom brokers without any additional gateway hardware.
Is programming with the Arduino IDE supported?+
Yes. The NORVI X is fully compatible with the Arduino IDE, ESP-IDF, and MicroPython. Sample code is available on the NORVI GitHub repository. OTA over-the-air firmware updates are also supported, eliminating the need for manual reprogramming visits on deployed systems.
What are the environmental and safety ratings?+
The NORVI X is IEC 61131-2 compliant for functional safety and EN 61010-1 certified for electrical equipment quality. It operates from −10 °C to +85 °C with ESD protection up to 4 kV contact / 8 kV air discharge, and optical isolation on all I/O channels for EMI immunity in motor-drive environments.
